A Moment of Silent Prayer

It is difficult for me to post about anything else right now when I am receiving calls and emails from friends and fellow bloggers in Australia and the northeastern U.S. regarding what is going on today. This morning, I received a very early call from my dear Irish friend, Tom, that he could not make it to my showroom in New York as he was dealing with the worst ice storm that part of the country has ever seen. I was so moved that he felt the need to call me. He is an extraordinary man who has an admirable work ethic and sense of responsibility. To him and others like him and to everyone who is facing the hardship of the ice storm that stretched over the mid to northeastern part of the United States last night, please take care of yourself and your family. Nothing else matters right now.

I also received two very early morning emails from my dear friends, Beverley in Brisbane and Frances in Rockhampton, that they were bracing themselves for the worst cyclone that Australia has seen since 1918 -- "Yasi". It is bigger in size than Hurricane Katrina was and it is expected to make landfall as I type this post. To all of the people of Australia, especially those who find themselves in the path of "Yasi," our thoughts and prayers are with you that you may weather this storm safely.

And to everyone in the world who is facing political upheaval -- especially those in Egypt. The eyes of the world are upon you and may you find a resolution that leads you to a peaceful existence. Life is too short and too beautiful to be wasted fighting.

So I hope to resume my writing of beautiful things soon. Until then, remember that wherever you find yourself in this world, there are those who care and stand ready to help. You are not alone. Just like the pelicans in the Gulf Coast who only a few months ago were dying and covered in oil, they are now being sighted once again flying through the beautiful Louisiana coastline.

Don't give up hope.

  6. G'day Karina.
    Thankyou for your prayers.
I wanted to let you know (if you haven't already been told) that it does appear that our prayers have indeed been heard and answered! Cyclone Yasi is now a rain depression deep inland. And to this date, not only have there been NO reported deaths, BUT ALSO there have been THREE reported births!! DURING the cyclone (in evacuation shelters - all safe & healthy babies) Praise our Lord!
