Simple Beauty

This weekend, with the rain and cold, I focused on restoring two very lovely pieces. These are the simple things that give me pleasure ... like this pair of Swedish parlor chairs (c. 1900s). Painted in the traditional swedish grey and delicately carved throughout their small frames, these small treasures remind us that sometimes, less is truly more.

And to accompany these lovelies, what better than this beautiful Louis XV table (c. 1890-1910), with cabriole legs and crest carvings??

These pieces are part of my new inventory, soon to be posted on 1stdibs. Until then, you can visit them at my store in New Orleans (3652 Magazine Street) or email me at kgentinetta@gmail.com for more information.

Hope you are safe and warm wherever this post finds you.

  4. Those are exquisite Karina! I usually fall in love with cameo backed chairs, but that oblong circular motif is so delightful and such a lovely contrast to the square frame that it totally wins me over! Those would make such lovely end chairs at a kitchen table (and wouldn't they look so pretty with the antique farm table I'm refinishing right now!) And you are a true artist with your painting techniques...that subtle variation of tones on the ornate carvings of the table is just gorgeous!

I loved your last two posts also...the Ralph Lauren shop is beautiful (I love the chandelier swathed in netting!) and that English settle you discovered is nothing short of spectacular. It really would be so amazing in a really rustic kitchen greatroom, maybe with an enormous stone fireplace to match the scale of the settle... Sigh...such pretty dreams!

  5. I remember finding your blog almost one year ago from Claudia of Paris Apartment fame. However, it seems more than one year that we've been corresponding! I'd yet to be introduced to disegno Karina Gentinetta, but knew that whoever this talented designer was that I'd stumbled upon, I was hooked! Simply put, there was a unique look to each and every piece in your shop.

When you post your work, your art, your style and your designs, that's when I remember what it was that lured both my husband and I in to your classic design world.

I absolutely love the table!!! Completely and utterly a work of art!! Definitely a piece of Gentinetta's world!!

  8. Dear Patricia, I am so happy you too love the colors. It was hard to decide what colors would best capture the beauty of the carvings on these pieces.
